They walked, they biked, they carpooled
Jun 27, 2008

One of the cool parts of my job is meeting so many different people. This week was no exception. The Green Gathering: Ideas was held downtown on Wednesday night, and hundreds of people shared their ideas for action that could improve the quality of life in our city. Josh, thanks for coordinating a visit by Pedal GR, who dropped in to the forum after 1 1/2 hours of bike riding around Grand Rapids. They meet at Founder's every other Wed., so join in if you'd like to hit the road and see different sights of the city. Members of the Western chapter of the Michigan Mountain Biking Association made a strong showing, too. We gave away 100 passes for a free ride on The Rapid and free parking passes for carpoolers. Contact the City's Planning Department for a newsletter with details about this project, and stay tuned for the next forum hosted by Green Grand Rapids -- later this summer or early this fall.Green_gathering_ideas_3 100_1730 100_1731_2 100_1732_3

Time to "get JFK" on your clients
Jun 25, 2008

Here's a humbling thought from this week's OMMA Social. For advertisers, social media isn’t just about transparency and honesty, it’s about humility, says Catharine Taylor from MediaPost's Social Media Insider.

"...Socialvibe President (and Online Spin columnist) Joe Marchese (suggests) that agencies should 'get JFK' on their clients, challenging them to ask not what social media can do for their brands, but what their brands can do for social media. President Kennedy might be rolling in his grave at that remark — except for the fact that Barack Obama, surely an heir to his legacy, has over 1 million supporters on Facebook, and 40,000 followers on Twitter. Maybe this social media thing is all it’s cracked up to be."

A historic moment is strongly advised
Jun 17, 2008

I don't know about you, but there are some things -- usually small things -- that drive me crazy until I can find the answer. Today it was searching for the right mailing labels. (Despite the power of the Internet, cool stuff imprinted with the company logo just can't be emailed.)

Because I'm a writer, some of the biggest grains of sand in my shoe involve grammar questions that I must have missed the answers for sometime during grade school. The "a" or "an" before "h" words is absolutely one of them.

John_mcintyre John McIntyre, once again, you have created a historic moment, not an historic moment, in my writing life. More  And if you, like me, are looking for fine entertainment only available online, visit How to Use a Pocket Handkerchief. More
