When I worked at a hospital in the Chicago area, I was really impressed as a PR professional to go through required disaster drills with the ER team. It's critical for staff to know where to go and what to do when the unthinkable happens -- if a plane crashes, a bus overturns or other events where many people need help fast.
The PR team has an important role to play as well -- making sure information is provided quickly, accurately and appropriately for patients, families, employees and the community. Today's world of social media adds a whole new dimension. And the drill is an excellent way to evaluate if your organization needs to update the way you communicate.
