Freep I am just a little sad about canceling our 20+ year subscription to the Detroit Free Press, but the time has come. A 3-day-a-week print edition makes no sense to me. Today we are officially DFP-free.

Tribe-t This might seem somewhat ridiculous, but people have been writing for others for years in business and politics. Twitter is no different, it turns out.

For today's celebs, including Britney Spears, it's hard to keep up with all the forms of social media. If you need a job, she's advertising for help to write her Twitter and Facebook accounts.

Noam Cohen of the New York Times reveals celebrities who hire ghostwriters to Tweet for them. On the other hand, Cohen notes that athletes like Shaquille O'Neal and Lance Armstrong tend to take the direct approach to their fans. More

Fire exit When I worked at a hospital in the Chicago area, I was really impressed as a PR professional to go through required disaster drills with the ER team. It's critical for staff to know where to go and what to do when the unthinkable happens -- if a plane crashes, a bus overturns or other events where many people need help fast.

The PR team has an important role to play as well -- making sure information is provided quickly, accurately and appropriately for patients, families, employees and the community.

Today's world of social media adds a whole new dimension. And the drill is an excellent way to evaluate if your organization needs to update the way you communicate. Are your policies, plans and people ready for such a test? More

March_300 Chase's Calendar of Events, the official source of Pen Pal DayWorm Moon Day (March 10 in 2009) or even International Accordion Awareness Month (really -- it's June -- and I thought that was all about NeoCon and office furniture) -- was one of my most exciting discoveries. Such a big deal to be listed there. Now with Facebook, you can create special events over a cup of coffee.

But if you relish tradition, submit your 2010 event to Chase's (they still accept faxes and hand-delivered mail, wow) by Tax Day, April 15. (I was having some fun with this until I hit the IRS site. Once you get past the home page, it 's somber. Very. And the tax maze and word search? Some topics do not make good game materials.)
